Analysis of failure modes in pipe-in-pipe repair systems for water and gas pipelines

Different failure modes should be carefully analyzed to effectively design the pipe-in-pipe (PIP) repair systems rehabilitate natural gas and water pipelines in place service. This study characterizes through analytical numerical modelling of different performance objectives have a comprehensive understanding overall behavior PIP with range thicknesses elastic moduli. It focused on assessing structural under load actions including vibration/fatigue due traffic loads, lateral deformation, cross-section ovalization, axial stresses thermal internal pressure, impact. The results analyses showed that thickness modulus significantly affect systems. implemented Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) suggested deformation is most critical mode followed by pressure based global priority as well both criteria (thickness modulus) when 200 psi ovalization least this provide useful predictive techniques preliminary tools for new material development and/or evaluation suitability available pipeline repair.
